Douglas has been a Portland realtor and homebuilder for over 20 years. His experience in both real estate and construction has allowed him to more readily identify which kinds of homes Portlanders most want, and need. Douglas has been an active member (and occasional agitator) within the Portland HBA for over ten years, building participatory and member-driven programs. Douglas has also served in an advisory capacity to improve zoning and other housing policies, including on the RMLS ADU advisory group and on the Residential Infill Project Stakeholder Advisory Committee. He has been known to make sporadic forays to Portland City Council when key housing policy issues surface. Prior to his work in real estate and development, Douglas spent a decade as a union organizer in rural Georgia and North Carolina, organizing textile mills and sewing shops during the Reagan administration, and in Central America with Witness for Peace, among other jobs and passions. After many years working with more mainstream single-family residential builders, Douglas founded UrbanRoost Development, LLC in 2017 to focus on delivering smaller, high-quality homes at modest prices. When he’s not building and selling homes, you can probably find Douglas hiking in the gorge, canoe-crabbing in Neskowin, or misbehaving at a Timbers match.
